Tunisia covers an area of 164 418 km2, and is situated in the eastern part of North Africa. The country has 1300 km of coastline, making it widely open towards the Mediterranean Sea with Sardinia to the north and Sicily to the northeast. The capital, Tunis, situated in the northern part of Tunisia, is a modern and very dynamic city of approximately 2 million inhabitants. The country is only a couple of hour’s flight from most of the main capitals of Europe (London, Paris), and only 45 minutes from Rome. About 15 km North of Tunis, you will find Carthage, the village of Sidi Bou Saïd and the luxurious hotels in the area of Gammarth. The official language in Tunisia is Arabic, but almost everybody speaks French. Along the Northern coastline, Tunisia has a typical Mediterranean climate, but in the centre of the country, the climate is more arid. In the North: from 6 to 14°C in January and from 20 to 32 °C in July. In the South: from 3 to 18°C in January and from 22 to 43°C in July. In order to enter Tunisia, you need a valid passport (6 months after the return). European residents do not need a VISA. |
